Bel Air, MD (March 24, 2026) – Animals, community, compassion and movement take center stage on Saturday, May 2, 2026 as the Phoenix 5K & 1-Mile Walk comes to the Equestrian Center of Harford County, brought you by the Humane Society of Harford County and special guest Window World.

This lively event features local vendors, music, and activities throughout the afternoon. Runners, walkers, joggers, families, and four-legged friends of all abilities are encouraged to participate. After the races conclude, stay for the Winner’s Circle celebration, where top finishers are recognized and resilience, second chances, and the impact the community makes possible are celebrated.

“This event is about so much more than miles,” says HSHC executive director Amanda Hickman. “It’s about celebrating the special bond we share with our companion animals while helping to provide care, shelter, medical treatment, and second chances for homeless animals in our community.”

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Whether running the full 5K or leisurely walking the 1-mile path, every step taken and every dollar raised helps animals on their journey from hardship to hope. Here’s how to take part:

  • Phoenix 5K. Lace up for the Phoenix 5K Run/Walk—a timed, family-friendly race! Whether you’re chasing a personal best or just enjoying the course with friends, this scenic 3.1-mile route is the perfect way to get moving for a great cause – every stride helps local animals in need. Awards will be presented to top finishers in multiple age categories.
  • 1-Mile Fun Walk. Not up for the full 5K? No problem! This untimed, easygoing option is perfect for animal lovers who want to take part in the fun at their own pace. Enjoy a scenic stroll (or jog!) alongside fellow pet enthusiasts. Every registration includes a commemorative event shirt for you and an adorable bandana for your pup. All friendly, leashed dogs welcome!
  • Fundraise. All participants—runners, walkers, and festival-goers—are encouraged to create a personal fundraising page at harfordshelter.org/phoenix5k. Your support helps care for the 3,000+ animals that come through HSHC’s doors each year, many in need of medical treatment, rehabilitation, and love.
