This time of year is all about feeling grateful. And while it’s easy to focus on what we don’t have and lose sight of what’s truly important, the real joy of the season is appreciating what’s right in front of you.

It’s Giving Tuesday. One day to pause from the holiday rush. A day to consider and cherish all you have. A day to think about animals who’ve lost their homes and their health yet still are grateful.

Rexy

There’s Rexy. At 15 years old he came to us with the classic symptoms of hyperthyroidism. After running his bloodwork half a dozen times and making small adjustments to his medication, Rexy’s thyroid levels are finally stable and he’s available for adoption!

Then there’s Spike. This 11-month-old bunny has a corneal injury which earned him a visit to Chadwell Animal Hospital. The doctors there prescribed antibiotic drops and we’re currently treating Spike and hopeful that his eye will heal.

There’s Romeo too. One day he was fine, and the next he suddenly had a 104 degree fever and was vomiting and stooling large amounts of bright red blood. Acting swiftly, Romeo’s caregivers at HSHC took him to the Animal Emergency Hospital. After ruling out several other causes, the final diagnosis was hemorrhagic gastroenteritis or HGE. There is no known cause of HGE in dogs, and any dog, regardless of age, size or breed is susceptible. Romeo went on to make a complete recovery and was recently adopted.

Romeo

Talk about being grateful! With every wag and every outstretched paw, the animals count you among the things they’re most thankful for.

With your help on #GivingTuesday, we’re going to replenish The Phoenix Fund. This fund was established over a decade ago with animals like Rexy, Spike and Romeo in mind. No animal should ever suffer or lose their life because we can’t afford the treatment…simply unthinkable!

In 24 hours, our goal is to raise $30,000 so we’re prepared for whatever comes through the doors in 2024.

So get ready to give the gift of good health!
