Fallston, MD (April 29, 2025) – The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC) is teaming up with the BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for the spring Empty the Shelters adoption event from May 1-15, 2025. HSHC will participate alongside 380+ shelters across 43 states and will offer $50 adult dog and $20 adult cat adoption fees to help pets find loving homes. “Every time we host Empty the Shelters, it affirms the importance of this lifesaving program,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “During the two-week event in May, tens of thousands of pets of all kinds, many who’ve waited far too long, will find the loving homes they deserve. Empty the Shelters has created real momentum around adoption, helping our nation’s overcrowded shelters save more lives. We are proud to keep expanding this life-changing effort and grateful to everyone who makes it possible by adopting or donating.”
During the 15-day mega adoption event, HSHC will be open weekdays from 11AM-6PM and both Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-5PM at 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston. Although adoption fees are reduced, regular adoption procedures apply.
“Last spring during Empty the Shelters, 46 pets were adopted in a little over 2 weeks,” said Amanda Hickman, HSHC’s executive director. “Our team is excited to welcome visitors to the shelter, introduce them to the animals, and help them take home their next new family member.”
Animals adopted from HSHC are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and also include all appropriate vaccinations and testing for communicable diseases, de-wormer, flea & tick preventative, a microchip, a free sample bag of pet food, and a general exam.
Since its inception in 2016, Empty the Shelters has helped more than 323,000 pets find loving homes and is now the largest funded adoption event in the country. The program partners with more than 815 animal welfare organizations across 49 states and Canada.
