Fallston, MD (April 21, 2022) – The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC), the leading organization in Harford County dedicated to promoting the well-being of animals by providing a safe refuge, care, adoption, advocacy and education, is launching a search for a new executive director.

Current executive director, Jen Swanson, has announced that she is leaving HSHC at the end of May 2022. “Over the next 2 months, I will be working closely with the Board of Directors to help ensure the transition is as smooth as possible,” Swanson said. “I have immensely enjoyed my 7 years with the shelter. We have saved the lives of countless animals, celebrated our 75th year anniversary, and have worked with amazing staff and volunteers to achieve our mission. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their support and my heart will always be with HSHC, both with its animals and its people.”

George Heidelmaier, president of the Board of Directors, says that the Board is looking forward to embarking on a new chapter of the organization’s growth. According to Heidelmaier: “We are sorry to say goodbye to Jen Swanson and we thank her for her immense contributions to HSHC. Jen has been a strong, strategic leader and has played a significant role in transforming our shelter into a perennial ‘Best Of’ nonprofit organization and leaves HSHC in the strongest fiscal position it has ever been. She has done a great job moving us forward in our mission to care for and protect the animals of Harford County. We are grateful that she is remaining with us through May 26, 2022 to help us in the transition to a new executive director. Our board is eager and energized to identify our next leader to guide us in the next chapter of our growth.”

The Humane Society of Harford County has retained the search firm, HR Strategy Group, LLC, to conduct a comprehensive search to fill the top position at HSHC. Information regarding the search for HSHC’s new Executive Director can be found at: Executive Director Search.
