Fallston, MD (February 22, 2022) – The 2021 holiday season was extra jolly because 24 local businesses each held a special event – from a brewery crawl, to pet photos with Santa, to raffling off scratch-off trees, and everything in between – to raise $13,133.43 for the care and comfort of homeless animals at the Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC). This group effort is known as Deck the Paws, and 2021 marked the sixth year that businesses have joined forces for their furry friends.

Deck the Paws is a pet project of Jason and Katie Davis, owners of Route 24 Ale House in Bel Air. The Davis’s are big animal lovers and wanted a way to encourage other business owners to support one of their favorite charities. “Deck the Paws is such a great way for local businesses like ours to give back,” said Jason Davis. “And it’s exciting to see how it keeps gaining momentum. We held a brewery crawl to three of Harford County’s newest craft breweries and the Maryland Lottery once again donated four lighted trees made from scratch-off lottery tickets. This year was stronger and raised more than ever before for Harford County’s neediest animals.”

Donations from Deck the Paws are not just for the direct care of the animals, but also the many programs and services offered to pets and their people. “We are extremely grateful for the support from our friends in the business community,” said Jen Swanson, HSHC’s executive director. “HSHC is not part of any large national animal welfare organization. We are an independent charitable organization, which is why it’s so important to give to local charities and support local business.”
