Fallston, MD (June 14, 2011) – The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC) is rolling out the red carpet on July 23 and July 24, 2011 from 12pm – 4pm for the first ever ACATEMY AWARDS – a spectacular cat and kitten adoption event. For two days only, the adoption fee for all cats and kittens will be lowered from $95 to just $35.
No fashion faux paws at this event! The cats will be dressed in their finest furs, just waiting to meet that special someone. When a Hollywood match is made, adopters will be given the star treatment. The paparazzi will be taking photos with the newest star of the family and adopters will be presented with a statuette. Photos will be displayed on the wall of fame. Adopters will also be ushered into our VIP Lounge to receive a free bag of Hill’s Science Diet starter food and browse the array of feline products for sale. Refreshments will be served. Catch a glimpse of a real Hollywood star – Marilyn Meow, Will Feral, TomCat Hanks, or Cindy Clawford!
And the winner of the first ACATEMY AWARDS is? Every shelter cat who finds a forever home and every human that finds a new best friend!
The $35 adoption fee for cats and kittens includes a rabies vaccination (if the pet is at least 4 months old), the first set of distemper shots, de-wormer, flea & tick preventative, a microchip for identification purposes, a general health exam, and a bag of Hill’s Science Diet starter food. There is a $50 deposit for a HASP (Harford Animal Sterilization Program) certificate so the animal can be spayed or neutered. That fee is refunded upon completion of the procedure within 60 days (or 60 days after the animal reaches six months of age).
Not ready for a long-term commitment? HSHC will host a fun-filled kitten baby shower on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 10am – 2pm at the shelter’s Fallston location at 2208 Connolly Road. HSHC is inviting the public to come and learn about fostering opportunities and bring donations of kitten baby bottles, kitten formula, canned and dry kitten food, non-clumping kitty litter, and heating pads to help the many kittens who arrive in need. HSHC has created a baby registry at Wal-Mart and Target (Search for first name of Kitten and last name of Season).
Last year, HSHC received over 400 kittens that required foster care. This litter season will be just as busy. HSHC has already received dozens of kittens this spring and expects to receive hundreds more as the summer goes on.
“It happens every spring and summer, and the sheer number of incoming animals can be overwhelming,” says Mary Leavens, Executive Director. “We need foster parents to provide love and care until the kittens are old enough to be adopted.” Foster parents provide temporary homes so kittens can grow in loving, nurturing environments until they are 8 weeks of age and will return to the shelter and be adopted into forever homes.
