Fallston, MD (June 24, 2015) – At the end of June, after nearly two years in operation and 481 cat adoptions, The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC) will close its satellite adoption center at Harford Mall. The closure is due to the opening of HSHC’s new state-of-the-art shelter in Fallston scheduled for the end of this year.

“With the opening of the new shelter just months away, it makes sense to consolidate our operations under one roof,” said Pete Hicks, president of HSHC’s board of directors. “Plus, the new shelter has many of the same features as Rescue Me! at Harford Mall, with the advantage of more room and more staff to better serve the Harford County community.”

The new safe and modern 19,000 square foot facility located on the same 26-acre property as the current shelter will have 66% more dog and cat holding areas, two cat community rooms with outdoor access, a separate kitten room and nursery, private rooms in which to meet the new pet, a retail shop, plenty of parking and so much more.

Rescue Me! at Harford Mall opened in September 2013 not just as a convenient adoption location, but also as a means to find forever homes for the thousands of abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens that come into HSHC each year.

Rescue Me! has had two important partnerships that contributed to its success at Harford Mall. Baron’s K9 Country Store was the first to partner with HSHC and set up their second location inside Rescue Me!, offering an array of specialty foods, toys and gifts for pets and their people. Baron’s K9 continues to operate at 525 Pritt Lane in Bel Air. Later, The Mill of Bel Air moved into Rescue Me! to also offer one-stop shopping for pet lovers and adopters. The Mill operates six other locations to serve customers’ needs.

“Baron’s and The Mill enabled us to expand into Harford Mall, and without their support, Rescue Me! at Harford Mall might never have opened,” Hicks said. “Because of their commitment to helping homeless animals, almost 500 cats and kittens found homes during the two years we were open.”

HSHC is also currently partnered with the PetSmart store at 1559 Merritt Boulevard in Dundalk, Baltimore County offering cat adoptions directly from this location.
