Fallston, MD (February 14, 2019) – Fourteen local charitable businesses based in Harford County joined forces this past holiday season for the third annual Deck the Paws, a fundraiser to bring awareness to and raise funds for the care and comfort of homeless animals at the Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC). Each participating business hosted an event – from pet photos with Santa, to donating a portion of sales – and today HSHC announced the net proceeds from these events totaled $11,953.

The following businesses supported Deck the Paws in December 2018:

Deck the Paws is the brainchild of Jason and Katie Davis, owners of Route 24 Ale House in Bel Air. The Davis’s are huge animal lovers and wanted to find a way to encourage other business owners to support one of their favorite charities.

“Deck the Paws keeps gaining momentum,” said Katie Davis. “Last year eight businesses participated and our net proceeds were just shy of $6,000. This year, thirteen businesses joined us and almost doubled the total. We can’t wait to launch Deck the Paws again this holiday season!”

“We are extremely grateful for the support from our friends in the Harford County business community,” said Jen Swanson, HSHC’s executive director. “HSHC is not part of any large national animal welfare organization. We are an independent charitable organization, so the backing from the community is vital to our operations.”

Donations from Deck the Paws fund not just the direct care of the animals, but also the many programs and services offered to pets and their people at the shelter.
